The concept
The Kentucky Memorial for the Unborn is meant to be a contemplative, healing
and living garden.
The concept is based on a modern interpretation of the historic Wailing Wall in
Jerusalem. The native limestone and granite wall emerges from the enfolding
landscape and sweeps along a graceful arc forming a subtle enclosure. A biblical
passage begins the experience along the wall where names and messages will be
inscribed. At the foot of the wall a shelf runs which will serve as a seating
bench and a memento bench where visitors can place cards, poems, toys, flowers
and other keepsakes.
The dark granite memorial wall transforms into a sweeping native stone wall
which forms a womb like enclosure. Within this enclosure a bronze statue of
Rachel resides.
